The rolling stock was expanded for further 5 articulated trolleybuses of the Hungarian type Ikarus 280.93 in January 1990. The trolleybuses received the car numbers 21II to 25II. On 31 January 1990 were 25 articulated trolleybuses of the type Hungarian Ikarus 280.93 in the type-pure rolling stock.
The overhead lines of the first subsection of the transport connexion of the quarter Finow from the crossing Spechthausener Straße/Leninstraße to Kleiner Stern was finished on 14 April 1990. A startup was however not possible because of missing stops.
On 11 June 1990 the Eberswalder citizen could peer a modern West German duo bus of the type Daimler Benz/AEG O 405 GTD. The vehicle was on the way back from a presentation in Norway and was now introduced for a few hours in Eberswalde . This vehicle comes with an electric drive and one in equally strong Diesel drive. Thus the vehicle was all-purpose.
On 28 June 1990 the VEB Kraftverkehr Eberswalde-Finow administered by the privatisation agency was converted into a corporation, a limited liability company (Ltd.), and works from now on under the name Verkehrs- und Speditonsgesellschaft mbH.
On 01 July 1990 in the still existing German Democratic Republic (GDR) was introduced the German Mark (DM) of the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) as statutory means of payment.
On 02 July 1990 took place the inauguration of the extension for the trolleybus overhead system from the crossing Spechthausener Straße/Lenin-Straße to the Schönholzer Straße, Kleiner Stern in the quarter Finow. The new building distance was driven by the line S 2 . The new building distance has a length of 2,1 km. Thus also the quarter Finow was attached to the trolleybus operation system.
Since the Walzwerk (steel-mill) had not been attached to the trolleybus operation system, operated now a bus line from the Kleiner Stern across Walzwerk (steel-mill), Erich-Steinfurth-Straße, Finow Post, den Großen Stern back to the Kleinen Stern. This was however not accepted by the passengers and was stopped after three-week test run because of small passenger volume on 21 July 1990. For it operated a bus line from the quarter "Max Reimann" across the Kleiner Stern and Großer Stern to the Walzwerk (steel-mill) starting from September 1990.
In the autumn 1990 the articulated trolleybus with the car number 11II of the Hungarian type Ikarus 280.93 as the first trolleybus in Eberswalde was equipped with advertisement. In a row all further trolleybuses were equipped with advertisement. Now therewith a source of capital was opened to the financing of the public transport under the conditions of the market economy .
On 03 November 1990 was the 50th anniversary of the most-used means of transport of our city Eberswalde, the trolleybus. For this reason took place already on the 02 november 1990 a symposium to the subject trolleybus/dual-mode bus. On this symposium a brand new dual-mode articulated trolleybus of type Daimler Benz/AEG O 405 GTD was introduced, which arrived Eberswalde the day before.
On 01 February 1991 after more than 40 years the fares for the trolleybus were hiked up for the first time. The fare for adults hiked up from 15 German pence to 50 German pence per travel and for children from 10 German pence to 25 German pence per travel.
On 26 May 1991 the timetable was changed. From the 15 minute interval was changed to the 12 minute interval. In the rush hour the timetable intervals were shortened on the line S 1 Nordend-WK "Max Reimann" to a 6 minute interval and on the line S 2 Ostend-Kleiner Stern to a 8 minute interval.
The generous planning for the net extension and also for the new building of an depot in Eberswalde/Nordend were in the middle of the eighties and later also under the influence of the privatisation agency revised and reduced. The freight service of the Verkehrs- und Speditonsgesellschaft mbH should be privatised. Accompanied by the privatisation the subdivision of the material and financial resources, in particular also the property became prepared.
Because the new building of an trolleybus depot in Nordend due to the reductions and above all the planned privatisation of the freight transportation did not take place, begun in July 1991 the installation of an trolleybus overhead system on the bus depot in Nordend.
On 30 and 31 October 1991 the trolleybus depot was displaced from the Bergerstraße to the area of the Barnimer Bus Company Ltd. (formerly VEB Kraftverkehr Eberswalde-Finow) in the quarter Nordend/Poratzstraße. On the same time the new workshop was starting and the old depot, from tram times still almost unchanged, in the Bergerstraße was closed.
Many Eberswalde enterprises did not withstand the free market economy and were closed. Therefore a new timetable was introduced again on 04 November 1991. This change took place, since in the meantime no heights of the passenger transport in the rush hours were to be registered. Also due to the depot relocation and therewith associated change of the trolleybus driver services was introduced a full-time 10 minute timetable interval on the lines S 1 and S 2 . Therefor 14 trolleybuses were then needed.
The 15 minute timetable interval on both lines on Saturdays and Sunday afternoon were replaced by 20 minute timetable interval. The 30 minute timetable interval in the evening and also Sunday in the morning remained.
At the beginning of 1992 the maintenance of some articulated trolleybuses of the Hungarian type Ikarus 280.93 were no longer economically effectively and a replacement of the same were necessary. In April 1992 were bought 5 used articulated trolleybuses of the Austrian type ÖAF Gräf & Stift GE 110 by a vehicle dealer. The bought articulated trolleybuses operated formerly by the Salzburg public utilities/transporting enterprises.
The 5 trolleybuses of the Austrian type ÖAF Gräf & Stift GE 110 received the car numbers 16 III, 19III, 26II, 27II and 28II. These trolleybuses served as momentary interim solution until the acquisition of new vehicles. In the long run the acquisition of new vehicles were tackled.
On 20 July 1992 the Verkehrs-und Speditionsgesellschaft mbH, that organised freight service and local public transport as successor of the VEB Kraftverkehr Eberswalde-Finow, was divided retroactively to the 01 January 1992 in two new joint-stock companies. The Barnimer Busgesellschaft mbH, a joint-stock company of the Barnim district, organised now the local public transport and the Eberswalder Speditionsgesellschaft mbH Dettendorfer and partner, a subsidiary company of the Dettendorfer Spedition Nußdorf/FRG organised the freight service.
In October 1992 a new time-based tariff system for the Eberswalde local public transport was introduced. In addition all trolleybuses were equipped with pressure ticket machines. A ticket was valid on weekdays in the time from 06:00 to 20:00 o'clock for 30 minutes and outside of this time as well as on holidays and weekends for 45 minutes.
From 28 January 1993 to 24 February 1993 a trolleybus of the German type MAN SL 172 HO M 12 from the Stadtwerke Solingen/FRG (Solingen municipal utility) was in use in the regular passenger service in Eberswalde.
In April 1993 a new triple-digit car number system for all vehicles of the Barnimer Busgesellschaft mbH was introduced. With the trolleybuses there was hardly any change. The existing car numbers of the trolleybuses were expanded by a preceded zero.
After already 1991 the communication road, the extended Schönholzer Straße, between the housing area "Max Reimann" and the Kleiner Stern in Finow had been finished, began in April 1993 the construction work for the already planned trolleybus overhead system to connect the lines S 1 and S 2 . The housing area "Max Reimann" had been renamed in the meantime into Brandenburgisches Viertel.
After the most different trolleybus types with their different technology and equipment in the past in Eberswalde were tested in practice, fell the decision for procurement of articulated trolleybuses of the Austrian type ÖAF Gräf & Stift NGE 152 M 17. That decision was ultimately benefited by the existing exclusive procurement of new MAN diesel buses for the Barnimer Busgesellschaft mbH. Ultimately has been the Österreichische Automobilfabrik (ÖAF) a company of the MAN Group.
In connection with a vehicle ordering by the Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe were 15 articulated trolleybuses of the Austrian type ÖAF Gräf & Stift NGE 152 M17 ordered. The delivery of the vehicles was planned between 1993 and 1995.
The first new articulated trolleybus of the Austrian type ÖAF Gräf & Stift NGE 152 M17 arrived Eberswalde at the end of June 1993 with one week delay because of a defective low load railroad wagon.With this articulated trolleybus, the later articulated trolleybus no. 004, on 01 July 1993 the trolleybus overhead distance between Brandenburgisches Viertel and Kleinen Stern was opened.
In this context the line management of the trolleybus lines was changed. The line S 1 drove now from Nordend to the Kleiner Stern in Finow, forward to Brandenburgisches Viertel and from Brandenburgisches Viertel back to Nordend. The line S 2 drove from Ostend to the Brandenburgisches Viertel, forward to Kleiner Stern in Finow and from Finow back to Ostend.
Until August 1993 occured the delivery of 4 further articulated trolleybusen of the Austrian type ÖAF Gräf & Stift NGE 152 M17. The articulated trolleybuses got the car numbers 011, 017, 029 and 030. The first five vehicles were delivered by low load railroad wagons.
Starting from 1994 the factory equipment on the Depot Eberswalde/Nordend were fundamentally renewed and modernized. Furthermore with public fundings large parts of the trolleybus overhead system were renewed. Thus the trolleybus overhead system between Markt and crossing Nordend was renewed in 1994.
The articulated trolleybus no. 021 of the Hungarian type had a spectacular accident on 28 July 1994. When turning left at the crossways Potsdamer Allee/Brandenburger Allee in the Brandenburgisches Viertel the articulated trolleybus touched a safety railing. Thereby the rear section was torn off.
From July 1994 further 4 articulated trolleybuses of the Austrian type ÖAF Gräf & Stift NGE 152 M17 were delivered. This articulated trolleybuses had already some technical improvements. They got the car numbers 031, 032, 034 and 035.
In December 1994 further 5 articulated trolleybuses of the Austrian type ÖAF Gräf & Stift NGE 152 M17 were delivered. The articulated trolleybuses got the car numbers 036 to 040. The last articulated trolleybus, the later car 033, arrived Eberswalde first on 22 January 1995. This articulated trolleybus tarryed to test runs in the Italian cities Bologna and Neapel. With this articulated trolleybus were 33 vehicles in use.
The articulated trolleybuses no. 031 to 040 were delivered by flat bed truck.
After the renewal of the rolling stock by the end of 1994 the 5 used from Salzburg/A aquired articulated trolleybuses of the Austrian type ÖAF Gräf & Stift GE 110 were taken out of the carpool. Two vehicles were scrapped and 3 vehicles formed until July 1995 a reserve.
At the start of the year 1995 the new workshop and then the test hall were putting into operation.
At the beginning of May 1995 the articulated trolleybus no. 001 of the Hungarian type Ikarus 280.93 was taken out of service and as first Eberswalde articulated trolleybus sold to Timisoara/Romania.
In July 1995 took place the increased selection from the rolling stock of the articulated trolleybuses of the Hungarian type Ikarus 280.93. Since the road test with the already to Timisoara/Romania sold articulated trolleybus no. 001 was successful, were more no longer needed articulated trolleybuses sold to Timisoara/Romania in the period from August to December 1995. Also 3 former Salzburg articulated trolleybuses of the Austrian type ÖAF Gräf & Stift GE 110 were sold to Timisoara/Romania. The remaining eleminated articulated trolleybuses were scrapped.
In the rolling stock were now still 6 articulated trolleybuses of the Hungarian type Ikarus 280.93, the car 002 as well as the cars 021 to 025. The articulated trolleybus no. 002 of the Hungarian type Ikarus 280.93 had got first in 1993 an overhaul and a new painting. This articulated trolleybus served as reserve car. Due to the very high moral and also technical wear this articulated trolleybus was at last extremely unpopular by the trolleybus drivers .
The in 1990 delivered articulated trolleybuses no. 021 to 025 got in the period from November 1994 to March 1995 a new painting in the firm colours of the Barnimer Busgesellschaft mbH.
In December 1995 the trolleybus overhead system in Nordend was renewed.
